why im not a techie

so i managed to somehow lock myself out of my own blog by changing my username without my knowledge. with all my forward advancement in learning some basic HTML coding, setting up a podcast, etc.. all wiped out in the face of not being to access my own blog. but being the crafty one i am, i figured out my new username and am now back in business (as illustrated by this post)

thanks to everyone who's subscribed to the podcast so far. it was encouraging to see that the # of subscriptions more than tripled since the initial podcast. ok...so it only went from 2 subscribers to 7, but for someone who honestly only expected 2 listeners, that's a great surprise to me. keep spreading the word about the show if you like it and hopefully the # will keep growing. for all those who are currently subscribing, drop me a line at the show's email (kwok_talk@yahoo.com). I set up a link on the side with the email address. Via Feedburner, I can see how many subscribers i have at a current point in time, but it doesn't let me see who is subscribing. I'm just curious, as right now, there are 4 pc subscribers and 3 mac subscribers. i thought i only knew 1 person who uses a mac, so im very curious as to who those others are.

already looking forward to the next podcast. went to see my great friend david perform last night, and today he agreed to record a short interview for next week. i mean, its the least he can do since i gave him one of my kidneys.

enjoy your week. love God, love others.

i got free tickets to the weezer concert tommorow in the company suite! i hope they play tons of stuff from pinkerton! one of my favorite pinkerton lines: "we were good as married in my mind/but married in my mind's no good/oh pink triangle on her sleeve/let me know the truth/let me know the truth"

you won't get to see get to see the tear's i cry

...behind these Asian-slanted eyes of mine.

of all that is good and awesome in this musical life of mine, i have come across the musical paradox that is kelly clarkson. i could care less about american idol, and the indie radio snobbery instilled into me by my time in college radio screams bloody murder, but i cannot get enough of kelly clarkson's new song (or her last song either). like ive seriously heard it like 5 times today on the radio. every single time, i just think to myself, man, this is a really addictingly good song, as i quietly sing along. yet every indie/underground bone in my body struggles against the siren's call, hoping that maybe launchcast will play another death cab for cutie or arcade fire song. i'd even settle for a "we'll pretend we're underground though we're totally loved by the mainstream" killers song. but yet another part of me anxiously hopes i'll somehow hear ms. clarkson's voice in a short while to help me through my day. what a paradoxical life i live.

now the video...that's another story, as i have no idea what is up with the pirate/goth s&m outfit she's wearing.

-congress, sex, and grand thievery

It's finally here! Click on the link below to access all the pre-show goodness.

KwokTalk #000 - The Preshow

Not much yet, but hey, its a start. There's two ways of catching shows:

1. Under my links, I have a link ("Click on this...") that directs you to Feedburner. That site gives you an address that you can copy and paste into your podcatcher software to automatically subscribe to the podcast. Also, if you have iTunes 4.9, you can go to "Advanced" - "Subscribe to Podcast" and paste the address there.

2. With each show I will also post a link to the individual show that you can access and download as a straight up mp3. This will allow you to manually download shows.

blood & water

So perhaps you've run into me this week and i've been a bit more sluggish or cranky. well that's probably due to my lack of caffination this week. reading through the latest issue of Relevant Magazine, there was an article about BloodWater Mission which is dedicated to funding the provision of clean water in Africa to aid the fight against HIV in that country. they have a fundraiser, where groups promise to drink water for the week and donate the money they would have spent on sodas or juices. normally its a two-week thing, but i decided to try it for one week. man, i thought the one week would be a cakewalk, but it has been quite far from it. even though i have cut down on my soda consumption in the last few months, that one bottle of iced tea in the morning or soda in the afternoon are such treats that are well missed this week. but i would challenge anyone to go ahead and make a little sacrifice. thankfully God can transform our small sacrifices into hope for others elsewhere.

parenting tip #1

So apparently everyone at church was feeding Terrence so much that he threw up, so papa Vincent decided to put a sign on him so that people wouldn't. If you can't see, the sign says "Please do not feed baby."

I've decided that perhaps I'll just make a sign that says, "Give Louis $10" and stick it on Terrence next week. Don't worry Vincent, I'll give you 25% of the profits.

popsicles and live 8

So tonight for Seekers, only two kids showed up as many of them were away on vacation. So we postponed the lesson and decided to eat popsicles that I had brought. 14 popsicles, 3 people, 1 mission. We pulled it off and finished them all. Check out my Flickr website for a photo recap of the night's events.

In other news, I was watching Attack of the Show before I left for church and they showed a link to an awesome website that has quicktime clips of all of the music acts during Live 8 in their entirety. I don't know how long this will stay up, but if you like music, I'd check it out. Among some of the more notables: U2, coldplay, bjork, the killers, keane, kanye west (check out diamonds of serra leone!), and will smith doing the fresh-prince of bel-air theme song. note: for some reason the link might now be working, so just copy and paste:http://www.sonician.com/live8/list.html

massively tired. going to bed now.

under construction

Man. so until i can sit down and devote some time to this website, expect it to be under continual construction (just like woodsmill rd currently). i finally fixed the comment settings, so that now anyone (instead of just blogger users) can post comments to their hearts desires. and since there are no eprops on this website, you can freely donate comments without worrying that i am really using the eprops to buy drugs and/or alcohol.

Hopefully (cross your fingers), I will be able to integrate photo albums and a webcam over the next few weeks if i take the time to learn how to do it. And i'm still really excited to possibly put together a podcast down the line too. i've already been thinking as to the format of the show, but i'll keep it under wraps for now.

later

Metropolis, IL. The home of Superman. And me giving some sort of squirrly-lookin face

Oh, and we also went fishing. My mom's "pole" consisted of fishing line tied to a bucket. She caught 6 fish, while the rest of us caught nothing.

the south is weird

returning to stl tommorow and it'll be good to have a day just to unwind back at home. while i have no disdain for the south and find a lot of it very appealing (southern hospitality, quiet country, love the accent), tennessee definitely has some oddities:

1a. mom and i went to church this morning (http://www.hermitagehillsbaptist.com), and most (well, pretty much all) of the congregation was caucasian. i guess coming to TN, diversity isn't something that necessarily sticks out in my mind. interestingly, the pastor basically rebuked the congregation for some racist comments he had heard regarding a black member (whom i guess they scared away?). i was definately impressed that he stuck it to the congregation, but throughout the rebuke, my mom and i looked at each other as we were basically the only non-white people there. after the service ended, we totally thought everyone was going to come up and talk to us, just to try and be "accepting of minorities." ends up no one did (which could lead me into a discussion of the fakeness of "southern gospitality").

1b. side note, i went into service wearing shorts and sandals and my mom was pretty low-key in attire to. in case of weird looks or comments about our lack of dressing up, i came up with two responses: 1) i'm sorry, we just came from China and didn't know that you needed to dress up for church or 2) haven't you read the book of James?

2. went to the Nashville Shores amusement park and was sitting next to this trampoline amusement park thingy that costed money. as kids came up to pay for the ride, i noticed that the girl running the ride stuck the bills down her pants instead of in her pocket. i started laughing as she looked more like a stripper in training. women here in the south seem to either be in two categories: 1) super-tall or 2) single-mothers. odd. i always had the impression that southern ladies were shorter, but i guess that would be based upon my friend from Arkansas in college who was barely over 5'.

3. in a strip mall, instead of a normal soda vending machine, there was a bait & tackle vending machine, from which you could buy nightcrawlers or mealworms. sadly, eating the mealworms would probably be more healthier than drinking soda.

Blogging has a sexual orientation?

So today I decided to show off my new blog to my mom. Directing the web to the blogger.com log in, my mom suddenly exclaims, "is this a gay website?" oh, mom.

made the drive down to nashville. made a side trip to go see Metropolis, IL - the birthplace of Superman! i wanted to take a picture in front of the Superman statute in the center of town, but i somehow forgot to charge my camera and ran out of battery juice. i got a few shots with my phone cam, so when i get back i'll see if i can load it up.

just finished wathcing g4.tv, where it was revealed that there's rumour that dave chappelle is a huge fan of world of warcraft. odd. i also recall reading a few months back that heather graham is a huge everquest junkie. well. whatever floats your boat.
